Chocolate Covered Strawberries https://www.livewellbakeoften.com/chocolate-covered-strawberries/ https://www.livewellbakeoften.com/chocolate-covered-strawberries/#comments Mon, 30 Jan 2023 10:00:03 +0000 https://www.livewellbakeoften.com/?p=48214 Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Perfect for gifting during the holidays or on Valentine’s Day, chocolate covered strawberries are a homemade treat that everyone loves. This recipe packs in all of my top tips for perfect strawberries every time!

Making chocolate covered strawberries yourself is a quick and easy gift idea for friends and family any time of year. Not to mention it’s much less expensive than buying them from a chocolate store!

However, as simple as coating fresh strawberries in chocolate may be, there’s a specific method I follow that results in perfect chocolate covered strawberries every single time.

My big secret? I always temper the chocolate before coating the strawberries in it!

Tempering the chocolate gives it a beautiful shine, and once it has set at room temperature the chocolate will snap when you bite into it. If you want to make chocolate covered strawberries like the ones you find at an expensive chocolate store, then you have to try this simple recipe!

Panna Cotta https://www.livewellbakeoften.com/panna-cotta/ https://www.livewellbakeoften.com/panna-cotta/#respond Mon, 09 Jan 2023 10:00:30 +0000 https://www.livewellbakeoften.com/?p=48205 Panna Cotta

Panna cotta features sweetened cream that’s flavored with vanilla and thickened with gelatin before being poured into ramekins. It’s a simple but decadent dessert that’s perfect for preparing before a dinner party!

What Is Panna Cotta?

Panna cotta translates to “cooked cream”. This classic Italian dessert is essentially sweetened, flavored cream that’s been combined with unflavored gelatin.

The mixture is then poured into ramekins or molds and chilled until firm. Because the cream and gelatin mixture needs to chill in the fridge to firm up, it’s a wonderful make-ahead dessert for parties or potlucks.

The sweetened cream mixture can be flavored with everything from coffee to lemon, but I made this a simple yet versatile vanilla panna cotta recipe. Top it with strawberry sauce like I did, or branch out by drizzling the dessert with caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, or your favorite topping!

Madeleines https://www.livewellbakeoften.com/madeleines/ https://www.livewellbakeoften.com/madeleines/#comments Sun, 01 Jan 2023 10:00:04 +0000 https://www.livewellbakeoften.com/?p=48012 Madeleines

French madeleines are buttery, delicious, and so easy to prepare at home! These cookies are slightly crisp on the outside, but soft and cakey inside.

What Are Madeleines?

Madeleines are kind of like a cross between a cookie and cake. While they are often referred to as cookies, they are technically mini butter cakes.

Madeleines cookies are made with a light sponge cake batter with melted butter folded into it, known as genoise. The batter is chilled then baked in a madeleine pan, which gives them their elegant, shell-like shape. The end result is slightly crisp on the outside, but soft and cakey inside.

While these may seem like a fancy or difficult dessert to make, I can assure you that they are actually pretty easy! This French treat is perfect with a cup of tea or coffee, but tastes delicious on their own with just a simple dusting of powdered sugar.

Sticky Toffee Pudding https://www.livewellbakeoften.com/sticky-toffee-pudding/ https://www.livewellbakeoften.com/sticky-toffee-pudding/#comments Wed, 16 Nov 2022 10:00:45 +0000 https://www.livewellbakeoften.com/?p=47804 Sticky Toffee Pudding

This British classic features a delightfully dense sponge cake made with dates that’s topped with a rich toffee sauce. Serve your sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream or enjoy as is!

What Is Sticky Toffee Pudding?

Sticky toffee pudding is a popular British dessert that’s made with a rich, dense sponge cake covered in toffee sauce.

The sponge cake is unlike anything we have in the US. It’s sweetened with both dates and brown sugar, and molasses adds even more depth and density to the batter.

The toffee sauce is reminiscent of caramel sauce in that it’s made with butter, sugar, and cream. However, this toffee sauce requires much more butter than regular caramel sauce, and dark brown sugar is substituted for granulated sugar to impart the classic toffee flavor.

When combined, the sauce and fragrant sponge cake result in a dessert so rich and decadent that one small serving is really all you need.

Apple Dumplings https://www.livewellbakeoften.com/apple-dumplings/ https://www.livewellbakeoften.com/apple-dumplings/#comments Wed, 14 Sep 2022 10:00:36 +0000 https://www.livewellbakeoften.com/?p=26759 Apple Dumplings

Whole apples stuffed with butter and brown sugar, then wrapped in pie dough before being baked until tender. These old-fashioned apple dumplings are then drizzled with an apple cider sauce and served warm.

Homemade apple dumplings are the sweeter, more decadent version of baked apples.

To make them, apples are cored and then stuffed with brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon before being enveloped in pie dough. The combination of tender apples and slightly crisp pie dough pair perfectly with the spiced apple cider sauce.

Enjoy your old-fashioned apple dumplings as is, or serve them warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. This is one fall dessert that never fails to impress!

Ingredients in This Recipe

This recipe is split into three parts: the pie crust, the apple filling, and the spiced sauce. I’ve given the full list of ingredients and measurements in the recipe card below, but here’s a quick overview of the key ingredients.

  • Apples: I prefer to use Fuji or Honeycrisp apples for this recipe, but any kind of baking apple will work just fine!

Baked Apples https://www.livewellbakeoften.com/baked-apples/ https://www.livewellbakeoften.com/baked-apples/#comments Tue, 24 Aug 2021 11:05:10 +0000 https://www.livewellbakeoften.com/?p=24659 Baked Apples

Whole apples are stuffed with a cinnamon-sugar oat mixture before being baked. These stuffed baked apples are an easy but impressive fall dessert!

As much as I enjoy a slice of apple pie a la mode or a generous helping of apple crisp, I don’t always want the flavor of fresh fall apples to compete with buttery crusts and crumble toppings.

When apples are in season, they’re delicious as is. That’s why I love baking them whole — yes, there’s a cinnamon-sugar oat mixture stuffed into the apples, but the pure apple flavor is still there.

These stuffed baked apples are a cinch to make and they’re the perfect dessert when you want to serve something impressive but are short on time.

Recipe Ingredients

One of the many reasons I love this baked apple recipe is that the ingredients list is short and simple.

Tiramisu https://www.livewellbakeoften.com/tiramisu/ https://www.livewellbakeoften.com/tiramisu/#comments Thu, 29 Apr 2021 13:30:36 +0000 https://www.livewellbakeoften.com/?p=22866 Tiramisu

This is hands down the best tiramisu recipe I’ve ever eaten. Ladyfingers are dipped in coffee and layered with a creamy mascarpone mixture. A dusting of cocoa powder finishes off this stunning dessert!

What Is Tiramisu?

If you’ve never made this delectable Italian dessert before, you may be scratching your head wondering what tiramisu even is.

In essence, tiramisu is a coffee-flavored dessert comprised of ladyfinger cookies that have been dipped in coffee and layered with an egg and mascarpone cheese mixture. It’s then topped with cocoa powder and chilled for several hours.

What I’m sharing with you today is hands down the best tiramisu recipe I’ve ever eaten. It’s almost completely homemade (I used store-bought ladyfingers, but I figured you wouldn’t mind) and it’s so easy to make. Win-win!

Ingredients in This Recipe

I kept this a classic tiramisu recipe, because I didn’t see the point in messing with something that’s already perfect.
